Dear GSCC Member
As you would be aware, Geelong & SurfCoast Cycling Club takes the role of marshalling very seriously as it is one of the key aspects of maintaining a safe environment for our racing members as well as other road users travelling on our circuits on race days. In addition, having race marshalls appropriately attired and positioned on course is a strict condition of our police racing permits and insurance coverage.
Marshalling is a duty that all club members need to share. The club warmly appreciates that the vast majority of our members readily accept this responsibility. Regrettably, however, we continue to experience instances where rostered marshalls are failing to attend to their duty, or make an appropriate swap, on their assigned day. Not only does this inconvenience the race organisers and other club members but it could potentially lead to a race being cancelled.
The GSCC committee would like to remphasise the importance that all members please regularly check and stay abreast of the club marshalling roster on the GSCC website. If you find that you are unable to participate on your rostered day please make your best efforts to arrange your own swap with another club member in a timely manner. In the event that you have exhausted all options in arranging a swap, contact the Marshalling Duty co-ordinators ([email protected] or [email protected]) for further assistance.
Please be reminded that our club racing rule penalties include the potential for a member to be temporarily banned from racing for missing their assigned marshalling duty. This is a penalty the committee would prefer not to impose on any member however should ongoing disregard continue then it may be an unfortunate step that needs taking.
We sincerely understand that club members have other commitments and responsibilities away from the club that can unexpectedly arise. Some instances of not arriving for marshalling could also be due to forgetfulness. Whatever the reason, the committee simply requests for members to please be diligent with the clubs marshalling requirements.
Yours in cycling
Committee Geelong & Surfcoast Cycling Club
