A freezing cold morning for 27 Geelong Veteran Cyclists competing in five scratch race groups at Paraparap on Sunday August 3. The temperature had crawled to 4 degrees and the wind a cold westerly but the sky was blue at 9:30 when the five groups set off out Forest road and returned to do two laps of the Hendy main road circuit for A to C grades (47km) or one lap for D and E grades (36km). Andrew Baker tried to go alone in A grade and it took all of the strength of the six man group to bring him back. Steve Young took out the sprint finish. A strong ride by Tim Meadon saw him take out B grade with Dave Spence and Mandy Hosking in a tight finish for the minor placings. Brad Keating was the strongest in C grade taking many solo flights off the front off the eight man group only to be dragged back in. Brad was too strong in the sprint finish as well.
