The performance by Rick Buckwell was the stand out at the GVCC scratch races on Sunday June 1st at Paraparap. Rick, riding in “A” grade against six talented rides, rode away from his competitors less than ten kilometres into the race and was never headed despite the best efforts of the other riders working together in an attempt to catch him. Dave Warren and Jeff Miller filled the minor placings.

Twenty three riders raced in four grades over 49 kilometres out both Blackgate and Forest roads finishing in Larcombes road. Conditions were wet with light rain and little wind.
In “B” grade a sprint finish saw Barry Howden edge out Mandy Hosking with Carl Judd third. The largest group of eight riders in “C” grade lost only John Hilsdon before the sprint finish taken out by Atilla Harangozo from Paul Bird and Dennis Sonogan. Only three riders in “D” grade sprinted in a close finish taken out by Terry Robinson with Ian Sumner second and Sue Cox third.
There is no racing programmed on the June long weekend with the next racing a handicap at Paraparap on June 15.
